Hatcher Graduate Library: Services

7-FAST  |  106 North Hatcher 7-FAST can deliver Library materials in any of the University Library's 19 campus locations to your campus business address. This service is free for faculty, staff, graduate students and proxies. Students with disabilities are also eligible.

Circulation Information Services  |  1st Floor Lobby, 104 North Hatcher Borrowing privileges are extended to students, faculty and staff of the University of Michigan. Loan periods vary by status of the borrower. Study carrel reservations are submitted here.

Library Services for Patrons with Disabilities Hatcher Graduate Library staff are available to provide information and assistance as needed to all patrons.

Ask a Librarian Services and Subject Specialists  |  2nd Floor, North Hatcher The Ask a Librarian desk staff is available many hours that the library is open. Staff can help you with the use of numerous print and online sources. IM/texting and email services are also available, as well as short, in-person appointments with a librarians and library staff.  For in-depth research assistance, subject specialists are available for in-depth research consultations. Subject guides covering the social sciences and humanities are also available online.

Instructional Support A variety of options are available to users of the Hatcher Graduate Library to gain or develop familiarity with resources, services and facilities. Sessions focused on online and print tools in the humanities and social sciences can be tailored to the specific needs of the class. To request a specialized session, complete the request form

Interlibrary Loan  |  106 North Hatcher The Interlibrary Loan office coordinates the borrowing and lending of materials between the University of Michigan and other institutions.

Scholarspace  |  2nd Floor, North Hatcher Scholarspace is the center for learning about technology. Any student, faculty, or staff member at the University of Michigan is welcome to drop in, email, or call with any technology questions or learning needs. Appointments are encouraged and workshops are offered on a regular basis.

Serials and Microforms Services  |  2nd Floor, 203 North Hatcher Serials/Microforms Services contains current issues of over 6,000 domestic and international unbound journal and periodical titles written in several hundred languages and covering a broad array of subject specialties. Current issues of nearly 200 newspapers are received daily, and back issues of many newspapers are available on microfilm. Over 2,000,000 pieces of microform may be viewed and copies made using digital scanners that print on a laser printer.

Stephen S. Clark Library  |  2nd Floor, South Hatcher Support for the use of maps, government information, and spacial and numeric data.

Stacks Office  |  204 North Hatcher Patrons can get directions to call number locations in the stacks of the Hatcher Graduate Library and the Asia Library collections.

Course Reserves  |  2002 Shapiro, Askwith Media Library The University Library Reserve Service maintains a large collection of books, journal articles, and other class related materials to support the academic programs of LS&A and the Rackham Graduate School. Items are placed on reserve at the request of instructors. Any University of Michigan student, faculty, or staff member may borrow Reserve items.
