How to Request Materials

We use a number of different systems to describe our special collections. How you place a request depends on which system the materials are in. See our introduction to finding special collections and archival materials if it’s new to you.

Requests start the same way whether you want to use materials onsite or request duplication. In either case, you’ll need to be registered as a researcher before placing your first request. If you’re already registered, you can also go directly to your Special Collections Request Account

Where to find request options

In all cases, selecting the "Request" link or button will take you to our system and pre-populate the request form for you (after logging in, if needed).

The form defaults to a reading room request for using materials onsite. You’ll need to switch it if you want to request duplication instead. Options on the form vary slightly for finding aids.

Requests from Library Search, Subject Vertical Files, or APIS

If you came from a Library Catalog Search record, the Subject Vertical Files list, or an item in APIS and want a duplication request instead of using materials onsite, select the “Switch to Photoduplication Request” button.

Ensure you’ve completed all required fields (including making an appointment for reading room requests) and submit.

Requests from a finding aid

Since archival collections often consist of multiple boxes of collection material, you have to select the ones you want to consult using checkboxes on the form. Select "Expand All" on to see a detailed content list for each and then the respective checkbox to request it. If a single box number is repeated in the selection list, it only needs to be checked once.

If you want to request duplication instead of using materials onsite, select the radio button for “Duplication” below the contents list.

Ensure you’ve completed all required fields (including making an appointment for reading room requests) and submit.
