Explore Magic and Monsters through folklore materials from the International Studies collections. Featuring supernatural beings, legendary creatures, spirits, and shape-shifters from around the globe, this exhibit examines how stories of magic and monsters help cultures interpret the unknown, express shared values, and confront fears.
Discover surprising connections and fascinating differences across global traditions, and consider how these fearsome, protective, mysterious, or misunderstood figures reveal what communities fear, value, question, and imagine. Come browse the exhibit, meet creatures from around the world, and decide for yourself which ones deserve their fearsome reputations.
Join us in International Studies (1st floor Hatcher) for Third Thursdays at the Library, a themed monthly open house where we share materials from our collections.
