About the space

Our weekly carrels are individual study spaces with a window and donor-funded furnishings, including a desk and chair. These carrels have a door and are for single person use only.

Donor carrels are not soundproof and should only be used for Zoom meetings if you will not be speaking and have headphones or earbuds.

There are 9 of these weekly carrels available in the Hatcher South building. 2 are on floor 4 (a Focus Zone floor) and 7 are on floor 6 near the Special Collections Research Center.

Make a reservation

You can reserve a donor carrel for up to one week at a time.  Reservations open 90 days in advance and you’ll need a U-M email account to make one.

See our guidelines for information about keys, maintenance, and security.

Hatcher South will have floor and area closures for window replacements this summer. See Hatcher construction closures for the latest information
