Brasilintime: Batucada com Discos

Watch a screening of the documentary "Brasilintime: Batucada com Disco" (2006) and view a pop-up exhibit. Stay for a Q&A with Gustavo Souza Marques (Gusmão), U-M assistant professor of Musicology, and the film's director Brian Cross (B+), professor at the University of California San Diego. We'll explore hip hop as a form of cultural memory, social expression, and exchange across languages, communities, and geographies.

The film explores the intersections between American hip-hop and Brazilian music through legendary figures from both musical scenes, including hip-hop producer Madlib and internationally renowned drummers such as the late Ivan Conti “Mamão” and Dom Um Romão.

Presented with support from the library; U-M Arts Initiative; School of Music, Theatre & Dance; and Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies.
