Jessica Morales appointed Associate University Librarian for collections

June 29, 2026

The University of Michigan Library has appointed Jessica Morales as its next associate university librarian for collections. Morales will begin on September 1.

Morales brings more than a decade of academic library experience, with leadership roles spanning collections strategy, acquisitions, technical services, scholarly communications, open initiatives, data services, open education, and preservation-related work.

She most recently served as associate dean for collections and open initiatives for the University of Arkansas Libraries. Previously, she directed the Collection Strategy and Acquisitions Program at the Notre Dame Hesburgh Libraries.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of Toledo and a master’s degree in library and information science from Wayne State University.

“Libraries have always held a special place in my life because the knowledge found within their collections creates opportunities to change lives," Morales said. "I am honored to join the University of Michigan Library, and look forward to working with colleagues to steward its extraordinary collection." Morales also said that she's energized by the prospect of expanding access to knowledge by working with consortial partners on collection sharing initiatives.

Lisa Carter, dean of libraries, is looking forward to welcoming Morales in September.

"I'm especially excited about the perspective Jessica will bring to our collective work as we continue to shape a sustainable, user-centered, and forward-looking collections strategy to further the university’s teaching, learning, and research.”

Jessica Morales.
