Lean Library Access Browser Extension

The Lean Library Access browser extension offers quick and easy access to online library resources by automatically detecting when you are on a website that contains content the library subscribes to.

The browser extension is freely available for Chrome, Edge, Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Safari on desktops and laptops.

If you are using an unsupported browser or a mobile device, try the Proxy Server Bookmarklet instead.

Box that opens with U-M Library logo and a statement about access being provided through the library and to contact Ask a Librarian for help.

Download and install

  1. Visit the Lean Library website to download and install the extension.
  2. Select University of Michigan from the list of institutions and click Save.

Use Lean Library Access

If you are on a campus network, Lean Library should work automatically once installed. The extension icon in your browser toolbar will turn green if the library provides access

If you’re remote or not on a campus network, you may be prompted to log in with U-M credentials.

When content is not detected as available through the library, the extension will automatically check for open access versions or provide a link to <interlibrary loan> so you can request it.

We are using Lean Library on a trial basis and welcome your feedback. Contact us at leanlibrary-support@umich.edu.
