Lean Library Access Browser Extension

The Lean Library Access browser extension offers quick and easy access to online library resources. You can download the extension (available for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Safari on desktops and laptops) for free.  A version for mobile devices is under development.

Box that opens with U-M Library logo and a statement about access being provided through the library and to contact Ask a Librarian for help.

Install Lean Library Access

  1. Visit the Lean Library website to download and install the extension.
  2. Select University of Michigan from the list of institutions and click Save.

Use Lean Library Access

The extension automatically detects when you are on a website that contains content the library subscribes to. If you are off campus, you may be prompted to login with U-M credentials.  Once logged in, the extension icon in your browser toolbar will turn green if the library provides access.

If the content you’d like to use doesn't seem available through the library, the extension will automatically check for open-access versions or provide a link to interlibrary loan so you can request it.

If you are using an unsupported browser or a mobile device, you can try the Proxy Server Bookmarklet instead.

Access to the Lean Library Access extension is currently a test. To provide feedback on this pilot please contact: leanlibrary-support@umich.edu.
