Special Collections · CollectionsAbout me
I'm the Curator of the Joseph A. Labadie Collection, part of the Special Collections Research Center.
A little bit about my journey: I started with the Labadie Collection back in 1994 as the Assistant Curator. When long time curator, mentor, and dear friend Edward Weber retired in 2000, I stepped into his role. My library and archival training comes from Wayne State University in Detroit, where I was taught by Philip Mason, then Director of the Walter P. Reuther Library. He instilled in me the value of preserving and making accessible this history of social movements.
As Curator, I wear quite a few hats. I handle everything from developing and managing our collection, overseeing our acquisitions budget, to answering research questions from students, scholars, artists, and anyone who needs help navigating our holdings. I also partner with instructors to introduce their students to primary source materials, work with donors, curate and install original exhibits, train and supervise our fantastic student assistants and interns, and help manage digitization projects. If it has to do with the Labadie Collection, chances are I’m involved in some way.
