Library Facilities

Who we are

What we do

We manage more than 780,000 square feet of the library’s four primary buildings, oversee our offsite shelving facilities, and manage our library spaces housed in academic buildings across Central and North Campus. We also coordinate the library mail system, which includes transporting books and materials between library locations.

We keep our facilities ready for visitors and functional for library staff by coordinating and monitoring building access, maintenance,  security, physical accessibility and safety. Our work includes writing and applying policies for library facilities, managing building projects from carpeting to full-floor renovations and office moves, and purchasing and designing furniture configurations for staff and public spaces.

In order to do our work, we partner with outside contractors and U-M departments such as Custodial Services, Facilities and Operations staff, Architecture, Engineering and Construction, and Environment Health and Safety.

See an issue in a library building? Please let us know about building maintenance, custodial, or security issues by submitting a Building Issue Report.
