Noted Sundance Film Festival-winning director Nancy Savoca returns to Ann Arbor to participate in the University Library’s Bilmes Visiting Filmmaker series. Savoca, and her husband as well as writing/producing partner, Rich Guay, will share items of interest discovered while looking through the archives of fellow maverick directors Orson Welles and Jonathan Demme. Nancy plans to concentrate on an unfinished film Welles started in 1942, "It's All True," and Rich will discuss Demme's involvement in producing their 1993 film, "Household Saints," which was recently restored and reissued theatrically.

Savoca was the Fall 2022 John H. Mitchell Visiting Professor in Media Entertainment with the Department of Film, Television, and Media. Her papers are part of the Special Collections Research Center’s Screen Arts Mavericks & Makers collections. Savoca’s films include "True Love," "Dogfight," and "Household Saints."

We'll also recognize Joshua Bilmes, whose generosity is felt throughout the library, including various research and programmatic initiatives for the U-M Library’s Screen Arts Mavericks & Makers collection.

Light refreshments served.
