Metadata

Metadata Consultation Services

Metadata describe the content, quality, condition, and other characteristics of data and can help ensure that data can be discovered, understood, and reused in the future.  Library staff are available to consult and provide expert advice on metadata and data documentation to researchers and units at the University of Michigan.

Services include:

  • Making recommendations on metadata strategies based on project requirements.
  • Recommending workflows, standards, and tools for metadata creation and capture.
  • Recommending and assisting in the development of data models that support discoverability, interoperability, and reuse.
  • Recommending and assisting in the development of transformation strategies for existing metadata.
