The Clinton collection consists of 133 titles (over 400 maps) primarily of Europe and Eurasia, and ranges from the late 16th to the early 19th century.
Henry and William Clinton were the sons of General Sir Henry Clinton, who was the last British commander during the American Revolution. The Clinton brothers followed in their father’s footsteps, serving as British generals during the Napoleonic era. Most of the maps in this collection were used by the Clinton brothers used during their military diplomatic service, while others were acquired as gifts or for their own study. The Clinton collection also includes a few maps previously owned by Sir Henry, as well maps owned by one of his grandsons.
