Physical Exhibits

University departments and registered student organizations are welcome to propose exhibits for display in the Hatcher Library.

The building’s available exhibit spaces are on floor 1 in the Hatcher Gallery and the Hatcher North Lobby, and on floor 2 in the Clark Library.

As the exhibit creator, you’re responsible for writing content, designing the display, assembling display materials, and covering any printing costs. We can offer guidance on exhibit design and give recommendations for material fabrication, as well as advise on installation.

For complex or longer exhibits, please reach out early in the process to start the collaboration and reserve display space.

Hatcher Gallery exhibit space

Displays in the Hatcher Gallery exhibit space range from semester-long library-curated exhibits to shorter pop-up exhibits organized by students and faculty.

The open area allows you to create a customized layout using a moveable wall system, and offers the option to host related programming such as lectures and symposia in the adjacent event space.

Submit your exhibit proposal and we’ll set up a consultation.

If you have questions you’d like answered before submitting a proposal, please contact us at hatchergallerexhibits@umich.edu

Hatcher North lobby cases

Exhibits in this high-traffic area often highlight library collections, but also feature student and faculty projects that use library resources.

The Hatcher North lobby cases offer eight vertical, glass-windowed display cases that are deep enough to accommodate both 2D and 3D objects.

Submit your exhibit proposal and we’ll set up a consultation.

Clark Library exhibit space

The Clark Library space hosts exhibits featuring maps, artwork, and other items that reflect on the geography, history, and cultures of the world.

A large glass case is available in the rotunda area, and the walkway is lined by three sections of horizontal glass-covered display cases with vertical display areas above. Your exhibit can use all of the cases or one section.

Submit your exhibit application and we’ll be in touch about moving forward.
