Hatcher spring/summer construction closures

April 30, 2025

Several areas in the Hatcher Library will be closed for building infrastructure updates over the spring and summer months.

As with any construction project, dates may shift. Check here before you visit. This page was last updated 06/23/2025.

You may need to find study space on a different floor. If you need an item from a closed floor, place a "Get This" request in Library Search.

Window replacements will take place on these dates:

June 5-27
3rd floor closure — stacks, study spaces

June 13-July 7
2nd floor closure — Clark Library, maps, Hatcher/Shapiro connector

Hatcher north entrance

With the Diag blocked off for brick work, you may not be able to tell that the entrance to Hatcher is open and will remain open.

The east entrance ramp off the Diag is being rebuilt to make it accessible, and some repair work is being done on the west ramp.

Both ramps will be closed in July for a span yet to be determined, but the steps will remain available. Please go around the building to use the accessible south entrance as needed.

Hatcher south entrance

The south entrance, which faces the Clements Library, will have doors replaced starting mid July, which will take about 4 weeks. There will be a temporary entrance available.

The south entrance is the only accessible entrance to the Hatcher building. If you need assistance entering the building via the temporary entrance (it will not have an automatic door), contact the Hatcher North information desk at 734-764-0401 and a library employee will open the door to let you into the south lobby.

Hatcher/Shapiro connector

June 9 - July 31
Expect sporadic construction work on the connecting hall between Hatcher and Shapiro. There will be a complete closure of the connector June 14-July 7.
