Hatcher construction

August 25, 2025

Construction is happening around much of the Hatcher Library, but both the north and south entrances are open.

As with any construction project, dates and impact may shift. This page was last updated 08/25/2025.

Hatcher north entrance

With the Diag blocked off for brick work, you may not be able to tell that the entrance to Hatcher is and will remain open.

The east entrance ramp off the Diag is being rebuilt to make it accessible. Some repair work is also being done on and around the west ramp requiring closures. There will be periods where both ramps are closed, but the steps remain available.

Follow the detour signs, and please go around the building to use the accessible south entrance as needed.

Hatcher south entrance

Doors are being replaced at the south entrance, which faces the Clements Library. This work will be completed in late August — please use the temporary entrance around the corner. The self checkout machine and outdoor book drop are unavailable during this work.

The south entrance is the only accessible entrance to the Hatcher building. If you need assistance entering the building via the temporary entrance (it does not have an automatic door), contact the Hatcher North information desk at 734-764-0401 and a library employee will open the door to let you into the south lobby.

Window replacement work impacting public spaces was completed in July, though work continues in nonpublic spaces and brickwork continues on the exterior.
