Changes to some study room reservation procedures

June 16, 2025

We're making some changes to reservation procedures for some of the reservable study spaces in Shapiro and Hatcher Libraries. By improving our stewardship of these very popular rooms, we hope to create a better experience for everyone who wants to use them.

Beginning June 26:

  • Individuals and groups can hold reservations for up to 3 hours a day and up to 9 hours a week (going forward).
  • If you're reserving for a group or organization, please include a group or organization name.
  • The person who reserved the room must check in with their MCard at a 1st floor information services desk in Shapiro or Hatcher before entering the study room.
  • If no one checks in within 30 minutes of the reservation start time, we'll cancel it to make the room available to others.
  • Reservation holders must remove all trash and personal belongings.
  • We reserve the right to cancel reservations or suspend reservation privileges if these guidelines aren't followed.

You'll see these guidelines in the reservation system when you book the relevant rooms.

If you have questions, contact LibraryStudyRooms@umich.edu.

Also beginning June 26, soundproof booths in Shapiro will be bookable.
