WORLD NEWS CONNECTION

Description

The World News Connection has the full text of foreign radio broadcasts and wire services, as translated by the Central Intelligence Agency, since November 1994. It continues the former Foreign Broadcast Information Service. Publications removed from the World News Connection may be available on CD-ROM at the Documents Center's workstations.

Access

The World News Connection is a web-based product. The URL is:

http://wnc.dialog.com/.

It is available through the University of Michigan network to all workstations on campus, to current University students, faculty and staff who connect via an ITD telecommunications package to an Ann Arbor NAS telephone number (734-489-2222), and through the library proxy server for authenticated users: http://proxy.lib.umich.edu/login?url=http://wnc.dialog.com/

Access is limited to five simulanteous users.

Viewing, Printing and Downloading

View a single article at a time or click on the boxes for multiple articles.
Use browser for printing or downloading.
When downloading, change the disk drive, save as a plain text file rather than an HTML file, and assign a name with a .txt extension (e.g. change retrieve to article1.txt).
