SEARCHING THE OSHA CD-ROM (L 35/26: ) The OSHA CD-ROM contains an electronic copy of the text of all OSHA regulations (standards), selected documents, and technical information from the OSHA Computerized Information System. The intent of the CD-ROM is to facilitate access to the regulations and other information produced by OSHA. Since there is a delay in the issuance of the CD-ROM, only the Federal Register can be used as the official source for OSHA regulations. A more complete description of the files present on the CD is on the final pages of this guide. Please request the Librarian to retrieve the OSHA CD-ROM from the Government Documents CD-ROM carrousel and insert it into the correct computer workstation. From the Main Menu, select D) OSHA Regs, Docs & Instr by pressing D. A brief description of the contents of the OSHA CD-ROM will appear. Press any key to continue. SEARCHING THE CD: 1. The next screen to appear contains a listing of the OSHA files available. Use the TAB key, or the arrow keys to highlight the file in which you wish to search. Press ENTER. 2. An introductory screen appears containing a brief description of the selected file. Press ENTER. 3. A Search Screen now appears. Follow the instructions given on the screen to define your search. Press the F3 key for additional search assistance. 4. The MAIN HELP MENU can be accessed through the F3 key as well. After pressing the F3 key, use the DN arrow key to highlight "Go to Main Help Menu". Press ENTER. Another selection will appear for more in-depth assistance for searching that particular file already selected. Also note the additional help keys at the top and bottom of the Search Screen. Use the Up/Dn Arrows or TAB key to highlight the search option you wish to use. The highlighted bar will initially be on what fields are available for searching. When you have moved the highlighted bar to the search area, you can press the F6 key to search the Word List for that file. - Some files can be searched by a Table of Contents or and Index in addition to words, phrases, dates, and the Word List. Press F3 for additional help. - To search using the Word List, press F6. Type a word you wish to search on. A highlighted bar will show your word, the number of documents in the file, the number times it appears in the documents. Press F3 for more help using the Word List. - To search by date, use the format YYYYMMDD (for example: 19911031 instead of October 31, 1991) - Enclose search phrases in quotes (for example: "indoor air". - Press F1 to begin a new search, or to clear the search screen 5. Press ENTER to begin a search. A window will appear, showing the number of documents in which your search term(s) occur. Choose the "Display Documents" option (press F2) or the "Search Results List" option (press ENTER). Either option enables you to view the documents in which your search term(s) appear. The Display Documents option takes you directly into individual documents one- by-one. The Search Results List option allows you to deselect documents that you may not wish to view. 6. When viewing a document, note that the document name is shown in a bar near the top of the screen, along with the total number of screens in the document. In most files your search term(s) will be highlighted. 7. To move within documents, use the arrow keys to scroll line-by-line or use the TAB key to jump from one term to the next. To move to the next document, press N; to move to the previous document, press P. Press F to go to the first document in the set, and L to go to the last. 8. Depending upon the file you have selected, you may Save a document you are viewing to a DOS file (press F10). After pressing F10, an small screen will appear. YOU MUST SPECIFY THE DRIVE PATH (A: ) AND NAME OF FILE. Example: A: Asbestos. 9. To print a document, press F8 (prints the full document). To print only part of a document, press F4 (Block and Save). Follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen , and/or press F3 for additional help. 10. To exit the database, press F7 which will take you back to the OSHA Selection Menu. By pressing the F7 key again you will exit the OSHA CD-ROM. FINAL AUTHORITY FOR RULES/REGULATIONS IS THE FEDERAL REGISTER. DELAYS IN ISSUANCE OF THE CD-ROM PRODUCT COULD PRESENT OUTDATED INFORMATION. Bloodborne Pathogens Final Rule (Preamble) Complete text for the preamble and standard of the Bloodborne Pathogens Final Rule, 1910.1030 issued in the Federal Register Dec. 6, 1991. Blood Lead Labs, OSHA Accredited List of over 170 laboratories approved for Blood Lead analysis based on proficiency testing. The file is used for compliance purposes and to assist employers in complying with the provisions of the lead standard for accuracy in blood lead analysis. Chemical Sampling Information Brief industrial hygiene sampling information for over 1300 chemicals found in workplace environments. Includes exposure limits and brief health information. Consultants (Expert Witness) List of consultants with expertise in areas of occupational safety and health. Listing of a consultant in this file does not imply an endorsement. Directives Agency directives (instructions and notices). Directives define agency operating procedures and policies for a wide range of topics from administrative to inspection activities. Also part of the OSHA Documents File Federal Register Index Index to notices in the Federal Register concerning OSHA from 1971 to May 31, 1992. Includes abstract. Library Catalog Bibliographic information for book holdings of OSHA offices. Not available for public lending. OSHA Documents Agency documents including compliance memoranda, standards interpretations, settlement agreements, hazard information bulletins, fact sheets , speeches, and testimonies. OSHA Standards Text of all regulations (standards) applicable to OSHA, which have been published in the Federal Register through May 31, 1992. Federal Register is still the official source. Also reflects the CFR Title 29, Parts 1900 through 1990. OSHA Technical Manual Complete text, tables, and illustrations for the OSHA Technical Manual. Process Safety Management (Preamble) Preamble and standard for the Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals Final Rule, 1910.119 issued in the Federal Register Feb. 24, 1992.
