NATIONAL TRADE DATABANK [NTDB] NATIONAL TRADE DATABANK - Trade information and statistics from 15 federal agencies COVERAGE: NTDB includes on two (2) disks the current trade and export information, country studies, domestic and foreign economic data, statistics (import and export) and market research reports in approximately 100,000 documents. The data are available as full text (books and serials), time series, and matrixes. Disk 2 includes FTI (Foreign Trade Index), a directory of names, addresses, phone numbers, and business contacts of importers and/or organizations in countries doing business with the United States. YEARS COVERED: varies DESCRIPTION: The main menu allows "browsing" in five areas: SOURCE, TOPIC, PROGRAM, TITLE, and ITEM. At the bottom of each screen is a helpline with information on how to scroll. Boolean searching is available by selecting [F7] (logic). Selection from SOURCE of one agency results in a list of program names produced by that agency. Users then choose the desired program to search. If you know the general topic you can search either by TOPIC or TITLE. TOPIC organizes data by general topic or category (e.g. agriculture, energy, exports) while TITLE allows keyword searching in the title of the item. PROGRAM searching is for a body of information, e.g. World Factbook, U.S. Industrial Outlook. The PROGRAM selection results in a list of all programs contained in that disc of the NTDB. Selecting a program results in a list of attributes or descriptors that may be searched to further refine the selection of items from that Program. If a unique ID number is known, the ITEM selection retrieves desired item immediately. SEARCH TIPS NATIONAL TRADE DATABASE [NTDB] supplies commands available from each screen. The following keys are used throughout NTDB Browse to select data and move around. You can read extensive help screens by choosing PROGRAM and then selecting the NTDB Browse Manual. COMMAND EXPLANATION F1 help F2 information on the source agency [alt] + Q returns to primary selection menu where you can choose quit to exit F3 BULLETINS Provides information about the current disc. (Primary Screen only.) -VIEW Displays available data. -ZOOM Displays items using full width of the screen. F4 PLAN Displays the current OR/AND/NOT search expression. -HDRS Provides definitions to column codes in matrix files when the matrix file is displayed. F5 COPY Print or copy selected items. F7 LOGIC Allows you to change the current OR/AND/NOT logic for your selection strategy. FIND Allows you to search for a word or word string within an item. F8 Mark for downloading F9 Displays the previous item in the Text Browse Window. F10 Displays the next listed item in the Text Browse DEL Un-selects the current highlighted entry. Deletes title name from title listing. ENTER Accepts selected items and continues. Un-selects a currently selected item. ESC Allows you to close the current windw and return to the previous menu. up arrow Moves the cursor towards the top of the window one line at a time. down arrow Moves the cursor towards the bottom of the window one line at time. left arrow Moves the cursor to the left by one entry. right arrow Moves the cursor to the right by one entry. HOME Moves the cursor to the first/top entry. END Moves the cursor to the last/bottom entry. PgUp Scrolls the current window toward the top. PgDn Scrolls the current window toward the bottom.
