If you are unsure of a subject term or the spelling of a word, you may BROWSE by typing in your search and pressing the function key . * Selecting: NUMERIC allows you to search numbers such as SuDoc classification, Technical Report number, MoCat number, or OCLC number. A list of numbers in the selected index will be displayed with the highlight as close as possible to the requested number. * Selecting: COMBINED SEARCHES allows you to search combinations of Author, Titles, Subjects, or all indexes at once (ANYWORD). You can also limit searches by format, language, or date. When ANYWORD is used, the terms are searched in the Author, Title, and Subject indexes at the same time. SOME MARCIVE SEARCHING TIPS: Truncation: You may expand your search words by using an asterisk (*) to retrieve all words beginning with those letters. For example: Agricult* finds Agriculture, Agriculturists, Agricultural Boolean Searching: By using the Boolean operators "AND," "NOT," and "OR" you may further refine your search. When using Boolean operators, you must use parenthesis. For example: (Drug OR Alcohol) AND (Abuse) retrieves over 1000 items grouped under the subjects of "drug abuse," "narcotics and crime," and "alcoholism" In contrast: (Drug NOT Alcohol) AND (Abuse) reduces the search to approximately 700 items grouped under the subjects of "drug abuse," and "narcotics and crime," but not "alcoholism" Also, it is possible to truncate within a Boolean search: For example: (Acq* Immun * Def*) OR (AIDS) Without Boolean operators, the "AND" relationship between two or more terms is assumed when doing a keyword search. Jumping: After retrieving a long display of titles, you may "jump" to a desired place in the list by pressing the function key and typing a word or words for the place you want to go. This way, you avoid scrolling through pages and pages of long lists. PRINTING FROM MARCIVE: In order to print from the attached printer, you have two options.
