How to Search The 1992 Economic Census CD ROMs The Economic Census provides a picture of the Nation's economy every five years. It details industry information for geographic areas ranging from the entire US, to States, cities, and ZIP codes. The Report Series CD ROM contains information from all economic sectors for geographic areas ranging from the entire US, to individual states, to cities. Nonemployer Statistics are mainly composed of sole proprietorship businesses, though a small percentage of partnerships and corporate entities are included. The numbers are derived from IRS information. However, because their coding scheme is not as detailed as the SIC Codes, data for nonemployers is reported at a broader level that the rest of the Economic Census. The ZIP Code CD reports information about retail, manufactures, and service industries by ZIP code. Searching differs from the other Economic Census CDs, and is in a separate section in this guide. The economic sector data is displayed by the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) number. A Manual, which contains the entire scheme, is available on Reference Table 5A in the Government Documents Service area (PrEx 2.6/2:In 27/987).
