Each variable in a table is listed alphabetically. Both the universes and
the relevant table numbers appear under the variable heading. If the index
variable is cross tabulated by other variables, the cross tabulation
variables are indicated beneath the universe and are preceded by the word
"by."
The universe, that is the type of entry being tabulated, is shown in
parentheses. While each tabulation applies to only one universe, the index
variables may have references to more than one universe. Check all universes
under the index variables.
