Changes Upcoming in Technical Supplement
The production of the Technical Supplement is becoming more streamlined through the use of a database program that eliminates rekeying the data for its publication in this newsletter. Personnel in the Depository Administration Branch now key the information once, into the database, which is updated weekly in a cumulative file. Once a month the recent entries are downloaded into a software program for inclusion in the Technical Supplement. The affected columns are "Classification/Cataloging Update," "Update to the List of Classes: Miscellaneous," "Update to the List of Classes: New Item Numbers," and "Whatever Happened To...???". Other columns may be added later.
LPS is considering changing the order of entries in these columns from SuDocs class number order to item number order. Any comments on this possible change should be sent to Laurie Beyer Hall by e-mail at lhall@gpo.gov or by fax at (202) 0877 by March 31.
This new system is currently being tested. Once the process is running smoothly, the online database will be available to depository libraries and the public, at no charge, on the FDLP Administration site on GPO Access. An announcement will be made in Administrative Notes and the Technical Supplement when the database is available for public use.
