NEW FEDERAL DEPOSITORY LIBRARY DIRECTORY AVAILABLE

        The new Federal Depository Library Directory, dated September
1996, has recently been shipped to all depository libraries.  It was
listed on shipping list 96-0370-P, dated 9/23/96, SuDocs class GP 3.36:L
61, item 0556-C.  This publication will be issued irregularly by the
Library Programs Service (LPS).  It contains a listing of the depository
libraries, regional depositories, and U.S. Government bookstores.

        In previous years, the Joint Committee on Printing (JCP) has
published A Directory of U.S. Government Depository Libraries as a
committee print.  As the JCP has no plans to revise the committee print in
the next 6-9 months, it granted permission to LPS to print this new
directory.  A Directory of U.S. Government Depository Libraries, July 1994
(S.Prt. 103-81, SuDocs class Y 4.P 93/1-10:994), printed under the
authorization of the JCP, is out-of-date.  The SuDocs number and item
number 1004-E for the committee print remain active.

        The information in the new directory is a subset of Depository
Library Profiles in ASCII and database formats available via the Federal
Bulletin Board (FBB).  To access the FBB:

are selected by the 3-digit telephone area code.  The Locate Libraries
function on the SuDocs Web page, <http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs> is
broken down by 2-letter U.S. Postal Service state abbreviation codes or by
the 3-digit telephone area codes.

        To keep the database and future editions of the library directory
up to date, please send any changes for your library's entry to LPS.
