ENERGY MICROFICHE DISTRIBUTION CEASES

The Library Programs Service (LPS) has been advised by the U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE), Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI)
that funding is no longer available to OSTI to support the microfiche
program, which has also served depository libraries under an interagency
agreement with GPO.  OSTI is converting its information management system
to receive, process, and manage information electronically.

Effective October 1, 1996, DOE information will be made available to GPO
for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) in  electronic format
and distribution of the DOE reports and publications on microfiche (class
E1.99:nos.; item numbers 0430-M-01 through 0430-M-46) will cease effective
September 30, 1996.

LPS has been provided with a test tape containing sample image files of
DOE reports and their associated bibliographic records.  LPS' Electronic
Transition Staff is investigating how this electronic information can most
effectively be used and incorporated into the FDLP.  OSTI has assured us
that no lapse in coverage will occur as a result of this transition.
