Join Lola von Miramar, a Puerto Rican drag queen who loves cooking, and LaWhore Vagistan, everyone’s favorite South Asian drag aunty, as they dish on the radical and fascinating works by Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes (Translocas: The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance, University of Michigan Press, 2021) and Kareem Khubchandani (Decolonize Drag, OR Books, 2023).

This glamorous deep dive into the complexities of the art of drag performance lies somewhere near the intersection of an academic panel and "RuPaul's Drag Race." Be sure to stay until the end; you just might be treated to a performance!

Refreshments from Pilars Tamales will be provided, and the first 40 attendees to arrive will receive a complimentary copy of both books!

A signing and meet-and-greet with Lola and LaWhore will take place after the discussion.

This program is presented by the University of Michigan Arts Initiative in partnership with the U-M Library.

While we hope you'll register to join us in person, you can also livestream the program.
