Happy Year of the Rat!

Asia Library is excited about the plans we have for the Winter semester. In December, we said goodbye to our 2019 Korea Foundation intern (profiled here), but we’re excited about the arrival of the new intern next month. Seohyun Kim is a graduate of Myongji University with a bachelor's degree in library and information science.  We will post an interview of her here at some point during her tenure, which lasts until mid-December.

The two series that Asia Library co-sponsors with the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies, Deep Dive into Digital and Data Methods for Chinese Studies and CHOP (China Ongoing Perspectives, a film series), both have exciting events planned for this semester. The first Deep Dive guest will be Professor Peter K. Bol, Charles H. Carswell Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Harvard University. CHOP is taking youth and aging as its theme this year. Check back here for information on these activities and more.

We are also excited to be continuing our collaboration with LSA’s Japanese Language Program. We continue to acquire and display in our reading room books specifically for Japanese language learners and have been pleased to welcome the teachers and students when they hold classes in the Asia Library seminar room for proximity to the books. We are also collecting materials for Korean language learners; you will find these in Asia Library on the wall of 3A North.
