MLibrary Proxy This Bookmarklet for iPhone and iPad

These instructions are for setting up the proxy bookmarklet for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
Please see the main
Proxy Bookmarket page for instructions for desktop and laptop computers

These instructions will help you add a U-M Library "Proxy This" bookmarklet for your iPhone or iPad. The proxy bookmarklet lets you reload a web page through the U-M Library's proxy server. If the page you are visiting is one that the library has a subscription for, and you're presently off-campus or on a campus wireless network, you will get immediate access to the resource once you've logged in with your uniqname and Kerberos password and have been verified to have a valid library account. (Separate Instructions for configuring the Papers application are also available.)

Note for Android users: This bookmarklet -- and most others -- are not readily compatible with Android phones.

Step 1: Copy this URL

Use the iPhone's, iPad's, or iPod Touch's copy feature to copy the entire following line of text:

Step 2:  Bookmark This Page

Tap the action arrow () button at the bottom center of the screen (iPhone, iPod Touch) or to the left of the location bar (iPad) and then tap Add Bookmark.  It will automatically be named "MLibrary Proxy This Bookmarklet for iPhone and iPad | MLibrary Labs | MLibrary", but you can change this name if you want. Save the bookmark to your iPad or iPhone's Bookmarks folder (or wherever you would like it to be).  You should see something like this:

iPhone & iPad Proxy Bookmark Saving

Then tap "Done".

Step 3:  Edit the Bookmark

This is the important part.  Tap the bookmarks button (it looks like an open book) at the bottom of the screen (iPhone) or top of the screen (iPad). Then, tap "Edit".  Find the bookmark you just saved (unless you changed the name, it will be titled "MLibrary Proxy This Bookmarklet for iPhone and iPad | MLibrary Labs | MLibrary") and tap it.

You now need to change the URL to the text you copied in Step 1.  Tap the URL field (it begins with "http://"), then delete everything in it and paste the text you copied:

javascript:void(location.href=%22http://proxy.lib.umich.edu/login?url=%22+location.href)

Then, click "Done".

Step 4:  Proxy Things!

Now, when you are using your iPhone or iPad and follow a link into a web site that the library provides you access to, just tap the "MLibrary Proxy This Bookmarklet for iPhone and iPad" bookmarklet.  If you have not logged in to the library's site already, you will be redirected through the campus signon page.  You will then be returned to the resource with access as if you were on campus.
