Birch Bark and the Writings of Simon Pokagon

Simon Pokagon was a member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, an author, and a Native American advocate. Join the library’s head of conservation and book repair, Marieka Kaye, as she shares our small collection of Simon Pokagon’s pamphlets printed on birch bark, as well as a selection of his other writings available at the library. She'll also discuss the significance of his use of birch bark, how birch bark was harvested and processed for this type of use, and the historical context in which his birch bark pamphlets were created.
