Lanell White joins the University of Michigan Library as the Director of Sales and Marketing for the University of Michigan Press. Lanell earned a Master’s degree in Information Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, specializing in archives, records management, and information policy. She also holds a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in African-American studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Lanell’s deep experience in digital strategy, institutional sales, and market analysis includes roles as Director of Library Relations and Sales at publishing technology provider Redlink; Product Manager and Market Development Manager at ProQuest; and Senior Analyst and Client Manager positions at consultancy providers Outsell, Inc. and ForeSee. Her experience also includes Google Book Search International, the Bentley Historical Library, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the Texas State Library & Archives Commission. Lanell is a proud recipient of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Initiative to Recruit a Diversity Workforce Scholarship in 2005 and the Harry T. Pinkett Archives Award in 2006.
Her interests include public service and policy, and roles that transform issues related to social justice, equality, and access to information. She also has a deep appreciation for the complementary roles that presses and libraries are playing in scholarly communications and looks forward to working with authors, editors, libraries, and the Press’s distribution and retail partners to grow the business. She currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with her husband and two children.
