Jane Blumenthal is Associate University Librarian and Director, Taubman Health Sciences Library at the University of Michigan Library.

The Taubman Library partners with the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, and Public Health, the College of Pharmacy, and the U-M Health System to create, inspire, and nuture future healthcare professionals, and to pursue cutting edge research to improve knowledge, understanding, and healing. “The mission of the health sciences library is to be a valued partner, fully integrated into the work of the university and providing leadership in knowledge management for education, research, patient care, and community outreach.”

Background

Jane Blumenthal has many years of experience in information and library services. Prior to coming to U-M, she was assistant dean for knowledge management and director of the medical center library at Georgetown University. She also has worked for the American Medical Association and the National Cancer Institute-Frederick Cancer Research Facility (now the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research).

Jane has a bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary and a Master of Science in Library Science degree (MSLS) from Catholic University of America. She is a member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) at the distinguished level.

She also has been active in a variety of professional organizations, including the Medical Library Association (MLA) and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL). She is currently president-elect of AAHSL and was previously a member of the AAHSL board of directors. Her activities include president of MLA for 2012-2013, MLA Treasurer, MLA Board of Directors, chair of the MLA-AAHSL Joint Legislative Task Force, chair of the National Program Committee for the 2008 MLA annual meeting, chair of the Leadership and Management Section of MLA, senior associate editor and editorial board member for the Bulletin of the Medical Library Association (now JMLA), and member of MLA’s Credentialing Committee. She has also been chair of the American Diabetes Association's Publication Policy Committee and a representative to EDUCAUSE, the Council of Faculty and Academic Societies of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and AAMC's Group on Information Resources.
