Services for Transfer Students
The University of Michigan Library is a dynamic place on campus where students come to study, create, learn new skills, collaborate with friends, receive research support, and find books, articles, music and more! The U-M Library shares similarities to other libraries but, as the fourth largest academic library, it is also very unique and takes time to understand all the specialized services and resources that are provided.
New transfer students should review the following videos and guides for a general overview of important services and resources at the U-M Library:
The library also provides Canvas tutorials on research skills that are important for U-M students to have in order to be academically successful. Check out the different tutorials to learn a new research skill or to refresh a skill.
There are many opportunities for students to create, share, and work at the library. Students can receive grants or prizes for research, read their poetry at Cafe Shapiro, or work with librarians on a variety of projects!
The Library is happy to help answer any questions about campus, course assignments, research, or the library system. Use Ask a Librarian for online help via chat and email, or visit any of our library service desks. We especially encourage you to contact your subject specialist for more in-depth assistance for an assignment or project in a specific major. We also provide research guides for every major and program on campus which include resources and services that are important for a particular major as well as contact information for the subject specialist.
