Data Sharing & Publication

Library staff can help disseminate research data for discovery, access and reuse by others in ways that enable researchers to receive appropriate and meaningful credit for their work.

  • Understanding the potential benefits of publishing data
  • Managing scholarly identities by including datasets to their ORCID profiles or other relevant profiling tools
  • Connecting researchers to disciplinary data publication options, including:
    • appropriate disciplinary and institutional repositories for research data

    • “data journals” or other means of publishing / sharing data outside of repositories

  • Advising in how to prepare data for deposit into an appropriate data repository or journal
  • Helping researchers acquire a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to enable their data to be cited   
  • Assisting with the data publication service that will be offered through the UM Data Repository
