Model of P. Mich. Inv. 1289

A model of what this cover fragment may have looked like when it was intact: a leather wrapper-style binding, with a fore-edge flap extending from the front cover and finishing on the lower cover; top and bottom edge ties; and a wrapping band attached to the edge of the flap to hold the cover and flap in place when the book was closed.
