TOME Publishing Grant

Reach a larger audience with funding to support open access distribution of your scholarship.

TOME promotes the digital dissemination of humanities scholarship by providing academic publishers with up to $15,000 to produce and distribute an open access edition of long-form scholarly works.

This program is an initiative of the Association of American Universities, the Association of Research Libraries, and the Association of University Presses. At the University of Michigan, this program is supported by the U-M Library, the College of Literature, Science, & the Arts, and the Office of the Vice President for Research.

Eligibility

You can apply if you’re considered instructional and research faculty, or a librarian, curator, or archivist. (Not sure? See definitions of positions in University Bylaws, Section 5.01.)

Eligible faculty authors from any U-M school, college, or unit may apply.

Research investigators, research fellows, lecturers, and students are not eligible.

Publishers

All members of the Association of University Presses are eligible publishers.

Other publishers may be deemed eligible on a case-by-case basis, provided the author can supply a descriptive rationale, and the publisher can supply a detailed description of their peer review or editorial selection process.

Application process

All funds available for the current fiscal year have been awarded. We will begin accepting applications again on May 1, 2024 in advance of the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2024.

See How to Apply for more information about what is required.
