Keep Reading and Researching

You can still access our online resources no matter where you are, even though library buildings are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your U-M credentials serve as an all-access pass

To take advantage of our resources, start your search on our website or in Library Search. Current students, faculty, and staff should follow the regular login prompt for access.

HathiTrust is offering Emergency Temporary Access Service to its digital copies of works in the U-M Library’s collection (U-M affiliates only).

Additional options

  • Library Access browser extension — get quick and easy access to online library resources with this extension, which automatically detects when you are on a website that contains content to which the library subscribes.
  • Proxy Server Bookmarklet — add and use this bookmarklet (a special type of browser bookmark) to check whether there's a library subscription to get access to specific content.
  • U-M's Virtual Private Network (VPN) with the UMVPN - All Traffic profile selected.

Alumni, retired staff and faculty, and general public

Although subscription agreements limit access to most of our online resources to current students, faculty, and staff, you may have other options to get content.

Emeriti faculty are considered current faculty, and can use their U-M credentials for online access.

If you’re a Michigan resident, you can use Michigan eLibrary eResources with a valid Michigan driver’s license, state ID number, or library card number issued from a public library in the state.
