Charles Hargis Davis
Charles H. Davis

Charles H. Davis is a Senior Fellow and Adjunct Professor in the School of Library and Information Science, Indiana University at Bloomington, where he also has served as an affiliated faculty member in IU’s School of Informatics. In addition, Dr. Davis is Professor Emeritus and former Dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Before moving to Illinois, he was Dean of the Faculty of Library Science at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, and prior to that was an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and an Assistant Professor at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Dr. Davis is also a chemist and has served as an editor for the Chemical Abstracts Service, specializing in the nomenclature of organic compounds. He is a Senior Member of the Association for Computing Machinery and also enjoys membership in the American Library Association, the Special Libraries Association, and the American Society for Information Science & Technology, serving as ASIS&T’S national president in 1982 and 1983.
