The bulk of DCU’s efforts involve the digitization of books and still images from the U-M Library collections for the Michigan Digitization Project (Google Books). We also provide digitization for materials from Michigan Publishing, Special Collections and other subject libraries for digital preservation and online exhibits.
We have an inhouse lab with overhead book scanners, a digital photography lab, and use preferred vendors to handle large-scale digitization projects.
More information is available if you're interested in:
- our inhouse digitization capabilities
- our OCR capabilities: what software DLPS uses to generate searchable text from books we digitize inhouse
- our Digitization Specifications (PDF): this document provides detailed information about our requirements for vendors to digitize, process and organize our books into digitized image files
Vendors interested in applying should read through the specifications and contact the Digital Conversion Production Manager.
