Traffic changes begin Jan. 13, 2014 for vehicles and pedestrians near Taubman Health Sciences Library

The construction site for the renovation of the A. Alfred Taubman Health Sciences Library (THL) will begin to take shape the week of Jan. 13, resulting in closures to one lane of traffic on Catherine Street and changes to a popular pedestrian route. Beginning Jan. 13, barriers will go up and close one lane of Catherine Street, as well as the sidewalk on the north side of the street between the Victor Vaughan Building and the south entrance to the Medical Science II building.

Next steps in the building renovation plan

With the academic year behind us, we turn our attention to 2013-14 and the major construction project that will begin later this year. In December, we will beginthe renovation of the A. Alfred Taubman Health Sciences Library building. The entire library building will close in mid-December 2013. When construction is complete, the library building will be better equipped to handle the demands of 21st Century education.

Regents approve schematic design for Taubman Health Sciences Library renovation

The U-M Board of Regents approved the schematic design for the renovation of the Taubman Health Sciences Library building at their March 21 meeting. Their approval moves the renovation project a step closer to completion.  Within months, work will begin on a $55 million project to transform the Taubman Health Sciences Library building into a natural light-filled health sciences education hub, one that supports in-person, collaborative, active learning.
