The Netherlands Institute in Turkey is publishing the photo archive of a renowned scholar of Ottoman monuments in southeastern Europe. Machiel Kiel's images from the 1960s-1990s - slides, negatives, and photographs - are being digitized and made freely available, with appropriate credit to Kiel. These records of the architectural heritage of the region are even more valuable given that many have since suffered in the ensuing time period. Currently online are monuments in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Future additions will include monuments in Turkish Thrace and Christian monuments and mural painting from the Ottoman period.
