As part of a collaborative project between U-M Library and Mendeley, the Library is providing access to the Mendeley Premium product to all current University of Michigan affiliated faculty, staff, and students until March 31st, 2015. You can access the trial here.

Mendeley is a reference manager and academic social network that can help you organize your documents, collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research. One of the unique features of Mendeley is the ability to create a citation library for a group. Members of a group can view, add and delete citations from the same library.

The Mendeley Basics Research Guide provides information on how to use this citation management tool, including installation, instructions on importing citations, and how to annotate and highlight PDFs. A FAQ document is also available.

New and existing Mendeley account holders who upgrade during this period (now until March 31st 2015), will have access to the enhanced features:

  • 5GB of personal storage space.
  • Creation of unlimited groups for social networking and collaboration
  • Group team plan of up to 25 members

Questions or comments can be directed to ulib-mendeley@umich.edu.

Also, feel free to talk to your friendly librarians at the second floor reference desk in AAEL. They can answer questions about setting up an account, importing citations, creating groups and much more.

Have you used Mendeley before? Leave a comment with your thoughts about it!

I like using Mendeley because I can read, highlight & comment on a PDF right in the program. Such a useful feature!

I'm new user of Mendeley desk top and on line soft ware. Would like to asking why it's crash while I'm using it? Is it because I'm using free version? Or My loading file memmory is beyond my quota? Could you please explain to me, because I'm desperately need to use it now and a year in front .

Hi Kusuma -- this is a pretty old post and the author no longer works at the library, but you may find our guide on citation management options helpful: https://guides.lib.umich.edu/c.php?g=283117&p=1886205
