This Wednesday's watermark comes to us from the Islamic Manuscripts Collection - one of the papers in Isl. Ms. 564 to be exact.
It features a crown-star-crescent motif commonly encountered in manuscripts produced in the former lands of the Ottoman Empire during the 16th-18th centuries. Our manuscript, for example, was produced in Yemen and transcribed during the year 1679.
Under the scheme elaborated by Mošin and Grozdanovic-Pajié , this particular motif would be considered a Type VIII crown-star-crescent.
A different watermark of the same type appears elsewhere in the volume.
Can you spot the differences between the two?
