Library Search

Last updated: March 22, 2021

We’ve been implementing a variety of changes to Library Search, many of which are already in place or will be introduced prior to the library technology system changes

Some of these are in response to feedback from the U-M community, such as improvements to subject searches, ability to sort results by title, and easier resetting when you want to start from scratch.

Other changes incorporate features that have only been available via Mirlyn Classic, an old search interface that will be retired when the new system is in place.

Among the coming enhancements to Library Search are:

  • New catalog browse features (by call numbers, subjects, authors, and titles)
  • An improved search algorithm that returns more reliable and consistent results based on search terms
  • Additional on-screen guidance to help you use new and existing search features
The changes won't affect the content offered via our catalog, but some of your search results might look different. That’s because the new system sometimes lists as separate items print and electronic versions of the same publications.

We expect to implement these updates and features by the end of summer.

Our guide to Library Search will incorporate information about new features as they become available.
