Coordinator, Encoded Text Services


Chris Powell is the Coordinator of Encoded Text Services for the University of Michigan’s Digital Library Production Service. She is responsible for the full-text content that is delivered online through the  Digital Library eXtension Service (DLXS) and  HathiTrust Digital Library interfaces.  Working with content coordinators throughout the university and at other institutions, Chris handles SGML and XML documents in a variety of markup schemes, including EAD, METS, and TEI.


Chris has an undergraduate degree in Medieval Studies (with a minor in Astronomy) from the University of Virginia (1993) and a Master of Science in Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan (1995).  Before becoming a librarian, she worked as a library assistant at the RAF Lakenheath base library in England, and in Acquisitions at Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia.
