Annette Haines is the Art & Design Field Librarian. As liaison to the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design, she works closely with the Stamps School faculty, staff and students to increase library responsiveness to users and to initiate new services. Her position is jointly appointed by the University Library and the Stamps School. Annette provides reference at the Art, Architecture and Engineering Library and gives orientations, tours, and lectures regarding the Library and relevant arts resources. She also offers users individual research consultations. Annette prepares and updates Library Guides and other digital resources to help assist users with art and design resources.
Annette’s research interests revolve around the unique needs of studio artists and how creative engagement can move the Library beyond its traditional roles. She recently spoke about librarianship and creativity at a webinar jointly hosted by the ACRL Arts Section and the Art Libraries Society of North America. Annette joined the Art, Architecture & Engineering Library staff in January 2002. She served as a librarian at Central Michigan University from 1997 to 2001. She holds an M.L.I.S. from Wayne State University with a concentration in Art Librarianship.
As a subject specialist, Annette is responsible for purchasing art and design materials for the Art, Architecture & Engineering Library always with an eye toward seeking innovative new collecting areas to support studio-based art and design work. In addition, she oversees the operation of the AAEL Special Collections which includes a growing collection of artists’ books.
