Some proposed changes to the SFX Menu were tested informally to determine placement and usage.
The navigation and options on the current SFX menu was formally tested in hour-long sessions with end-users.
A re-design of the first SFX Label Test, with re-designed graphics for the SFX label, was informally tested. The results were again inconclusive, but narrowed down to two label choices.
Eight other institutions that use a similar service were compared with UM's to see the differences in labeling choices.
Label terminology was tested to determine what best fits the user's understanding of the service in preparation for redesigning the button.
Undergraduate and graduate students worked through discovery tasks intended to test the search and retrieval of items, while faculty tested the deposit interface. (The following report also contains results from a School of Information Usability class project.)
This is an overview report, which includes brief descriptions and findings from all parts of this study and a final recommendation.
Individuals were asked to complete tasks involving labeling and navigation as well as the various types of searches available. Only a summary of this testing is available, not the full report.
