Borrowing Privileges
In order to check books out of the Shapiro Undergraduate Library, students
must have a borrowing card with a machine-readable barcode. Faculty and
Staff can obtain a faculty level borrowing card at the 1st floor circulation
desk.
Loan Periods
All Undergraduate Library books can be checked out for 3 weeks to all
levels of borrowers.
Returns
Outside book returns are located at the southwest side of the Shapiro
Library and on the north side of the building beside the northeast entrance
gallery. There's also a book return in the UGL lobby.
Renewals
Items can be renewed only once and must be renewed on or before the due
date stamped in the back of the book. Faculty and academic guests and
staff will receive computer-generated notices on which renewals can be
requested. Students can renew items online in MIRLYNweb by clicking on the "What I've Checked Out" icon.
Holds/Recalls
A user may request that library staff place a recall or hold on a book
that is currently checked out. Borrowers are guaranteed the use of a library
book for a minimum of three weeks, unless a rush recall is placed on an
item needed for course reserve. Borrowing privileges can be suspended
if a recalled item is not returned by the new recall due date. In addition,
a $2.00 per day per item fine is assessed to all categories or borrowers.
