When you write
your paper, you'll need to use the citation style recommended by
the American Anthropological Association (AAA). Examples are provided
on the page that follows. The AAA has published detailed guidelines
for papers in the field of anthropology in a style guide that you
can download
and print. AAA Style is based on the 14th edition of the Chicago
Manual of Style (1993). Keep in mind that MIRLYN (MCAT) does not
use AAA style, so when you cite your sources, you will have to change
the order they appear in MIRLYN to Chicago Style.
Examples for
preparing citations are provided in this tutorial. The list of works
cited are taken from The AAA Style Guide (available
in the Undergraduate Library at the Reference Desk), and the University
of Chicago Press
Frequently Asked Questions page.
Generally, when
you use AAA citation style, you note sources in two places: 1) within
the text of the paper (parenthetical citation) and
2) in the reference list at the end of the paper. If you
cite a source in the text of your paper, that same source should
be listed in the reference list.
