EEBO-TCP Update Meeting at ALA in Atlanta
The EEBO-TCP held two meetings at the American Library Association
Annual conference just as Partner libraries were beginning to
experiment with the newly-improved EEBO-TCP database. Maria Bonn
of the University of Michigan provided a glimpse of the pruduction
process that creates encoded texts, and Mark Sandler offered an
overview of the Partnership's finances and membership recruitment
efforts. Hillary Nunn also demonstrated changes that have been
made to the database's interface, which include an enhanced capability
for combining bibliographic and keyword searching.

Partner Libraries Enjoying Access to EEBO-TCP Prototype Database
After less than one year of production, almost 500 searchable
EEBO-TCP texts have gone online behind a prototype database created
at the University of Michigan. With more texts being added every
month, over 1,000 works will be available online when full-scale
production reaches its one-year anniversary in July of 2002. Partner
institutions have been offered access to the database since early
spring, and the Michigan production team has been consistently
working to make further improvements to the interface. The finishing
touches are being put on the programming that allows users to
move from EEBO-TCP encoded texts to the EEBO digital page images,
and we are continuing to fine-tune the interface's search options.
A system for supplying trial passwords is now in place for those
considering membership in the EEBO-TCP. If you are interested
in obtaining a trial password for your institution, please contact
Hillary Nunn at hnunn@umich.edu.
