Services for Patrons with Disabilities - Askwith Media Library

 

Staff Assistance
Askwith Media Library staff is available at the following location to provide information and assistance as needed to all patrons.

Building Entrances
The main entrance to the Shapiro Undergraduate Library, on the north side of the building, is on ground level and equipped with automatic doors.

Elevators
Elevators are located on the north and south sides of the building.

Computers
The Askwith Media Library does not have wheelchair-accessible computer stations. Viewing stations with a TV, DVD player and VHS player are available and wheelchair accessible. Staff is available to assist users as needed in accessing these computers.

Navigating the Stacks
The Askwith Media collection does not have open stacks for browsing. All requests for materials should be made at the service desk or via email.

Restrooms
Restrooms equipped with stalls and fixtures designed for wheelchair access are located on the 2 nd floor, just outside the entrance to the Askwith Media Library.

Handicapped Parking Areas:
Handicapped-designated parking spaces are located in the loading dock area of the Graduate Library, located off South University.

Adaptive Technology Site
Located in the Shapiro Undergraduate Library, this site has a variety of adaptive hardware and software to meet users' needs. Contact Shapiro Undergraduate Library Reference staff for additional information at 734/763-4141 or contact the Adaptive Technology Computing Site staff.

Building Entrances
All exterior entrances to the Duderstadt Center are ground level and are equipped with automatic doors. The entrance from the Pierpont Commons connector is ground level but does not have automatic doors.

 

 

Elevators
Public elevators are located at the north side of the building by the Atrium entrance. However, these elevators only provide access to the Basement, 1st and 2nd floors. To go to the 3rd floor, take these elevators to the 2nd floor and then go left at the Circulation & Reserves Desk (the large circular desk located in the center) then through the left set of automatic glass doors to the east elevators.

 

 

Computers
All computer workstations are wheelchair-accessible. Computers are available on the basement level, 2 nd and 3 rd floors. There is also an “Ergopod” station located in the northeast corner of the 2 nd floor. Go to the Adaptive Technology Computing Site website for more information on the use of the Ergopod.

 

 

Navigating the Stacks
Library materials are located on the basement level, 2nd and 3rd floors. All aisles are wheelchair accessible with the exception of some of the basement aisles. Contact the Circulation and Reserves desk located on the 2nd floor for assistance (734) 647-5747. A campus phone is located on the side of the basement help desk.

 

Study Space

There are study areas accessible to patrons in wheelchairs on the 2nd floor. There are also private study rooms on the 2nd floor that are available by advanced reservation.

 

 

Restrooms
All public restrooms are equipped with stalls and fixtures designed for wheelchair access and are located as follows:

Basement: East and West sides of the building (men’s and women’s)

1st Floor: East and West sides of the building (men’s and women’s)

2nd Floor: East and West sides of the building (men’s and women’s)

3rd Floor: East and West sides of the building (men’s and women’s)

 

 

Accessible Parking Areas
Accessbile parking for persons with disabilities are located on Bonisteel Boulevard near the Pierpont Commons.

The 4th Annual MLibrary Photo Contest is co-sponsored by Mhealthy - The University of Michigan Health & Well-Being Services offers wellness and health risk reduction services for U-M faculty, students, staff, dependents, and retirees, as well as for the general public and Michigan businesses.

          Official Rules & Submission Guidelines

 

 

1. Entrants submitting photos for the contest must be currently in attendance at the University of Michigan at the undergraduate or graduate level.

2. Photograph entries must be the original work of the entrant and reflect the theme of the contest, "Healthy Michigan".

3. Photos must be submitted with a resolution of 300 DPI or higher.  Most file types are acceptable, but please try and use a standard format such as JPG, PNG, or TIF.

4. Each email submission must include the following:

a) The title of the work (if any)

b) The complete name of the photographer, class standing, college affiliation (sophomore LSA, senior Engineering, etc.)

c) Where the photograph was taken

d) A paragraph of no more than 250 words answering the question, "How Do You Stay Healthy at Michigan?"

e) How you heard about the contest.

5. In submitting photographs of individuals, it is assumed by the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Library that the photographer has obtained the rights and permission of those featured in the photograph. Neither the University of Michigan nor the University of Michigan Library is responsible for cases in which permission has not been granted by the subjects.

6. By submitting photographs to the contest via email, entrants agree to grant the University of Michigan Library permission to use the photographs in promotional materials, both related and unrelated to the contest, without compensation to the photographer.  Any photographs used for any purposes will be fully credited to the entrant.

7. First, second and third place photos will be displayed permanently in the Library.  Prizes will be awarded as follows:         

a) 1st place:  $50 gift certificate
b) 2nd place: $30 gift certificate
c) 3rd place:  $20 gift certificate
A Campus Choice winner will be eligible to win an additional gift card.

8. Entries will be judged by a committee of University of Michigan Library staff members (no professional photographers) on creativity, compliance with the theme, originality, and overall quality of the image.

9. The contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries that do not conform to the stated rules and guidelines.  By participating in the contest, the entrant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules, and it is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that he/she has complied.  The determination of the winners will be final and binding in all matters relating to this contest.

10. The deadline for all entries to be received is March 11, 2011.  Judging will be completed and winners will be announced thereafter.

11. Submit photos and associated information as attachments to libphotocontest@umich.edu. Each entrant may submit no more than 2 photos.
